Our History It all began 43 years ago in 1971, when Eugene Smelik first discovered the Kinetico water systems. Having
suffered through years of sub-standard water quality and poor-performing systems, Gene was always on the
lookout for something that would solve his water quality problems once and for all. The years of frustration
with systems that could not solve the common problems with his well water came to an end when Gene
stumbled upon the two engineers who invented the Kinetico system. This chance meeting changed how he
perceived water quality and water treatment equipment design forever. Because of his positive experience
with Kinetico’s uniquely-designed Non-Electric, Twin-Tank systems, Gene made a personal commitment to
share this discovery with anyone he could, hence the beginning of Advanced Water Systems in 1987. From
small beginnings in Gene’s garage in Morehead City, North Carolina to 7 different locations in 4 states
(NC, SC, GA, and VA), Advanced Water Systems, Inc. has become the sole provider of Kinetico water
systems for thousands of homes, businesses and families who value high quality water.
