National Therapeutic Recreation Week

Observed: July 04, 2027 - July 10

National Therapeutic Recreation Week, observed the second week of July since 1984,  raises awareness of the important role recreational therapy plays in improving health, independence, and quality of life for people with physical, intellectual, emotional, and mental health needs.

Recreational therapy uses structured, activity-based interventions led by trained and certified professionals. Depending on an individual’s goals, these therapeutic activities may include adaptive sports, expressive arts, horticulture, relaxation techniques, family-centered activities, and community outings. Each intervention is designed to support recovery, strengthen abilities, encourage social connection, and help individuals participate more fully in their communities.
