Have you ever felt like you have reached the end of the road and ready to give up? I know exactly what that feels like. In 2003, I weighed more than 305 lbs. When I first started my fitness and weight loss journey I could only walk on the treadmill for only 5 minutes. To make even worse in 2001 I was in best shape of my life until I gave up training and began to focus on my career in telecommunications. It wasn’t the job that made me fat or out of shape, it was choices. I would overeat, eat lots of foods loaded with sugar, and I would eat bread in a restaurant like it was going out of style. Does any of this sound familiar to you? During the 2 year timeframe from 2001 to 2003, I didn’t even notice that I was getting fat either, because I buy large clothing which would hide the love handles and hanging belly, and like most men, I felt like I was just getting older and it was a part of life, which I now realize is a copout. It wasn’t until my daughter which was 2 years old at the time called me her big brown daddy, that I even realized that I was really fat. Children are so honest, and I love that about them. My journey was triggered by a year old calling my big and I never wanted to be called fat, so instead of going into a middle age depression I went to work on the problem, but I didn’t have any of the tools to be successful. Fast forward 13 years later, I’m now a nationally qualified men’s physique athlete in the open and masters division, which wasn’t even on my dream board until 2 years ago. Due to my own struggles with losing weight and getting really ripped, I decided to become a personal trainer to assist people on their journey. The key is to pay it forward and to share the gift with as many people as possible.
